An asana is a body posture, originally and still a general term for a sitting meditation pose, and later extended in hatha yoga and modern yoga as exercise, to any type of position, adding reclining, standing, inverted, twisting, and balancing poses.
Yoga helps to improve flexibility, strength, and balance. Asanas help the body's joints, ligaments, and muscles strengthen through movement. A regular yoga practice can, over time, increase flexibility and mobility, lubricating the spine and alignment to aid in everyday activity.
Acupressure is being practiced in Asia for thousands of years. By learning how to stimulate pressure points, you can relieve minor or moderate symptoms, and reduce the need for nonprescription drugs. Unlike most drugs, relief is usually immediate.
Book: Health in your Hands
Before applying acupressure, read the instructions carefully. Note that acupressure does not replace standard emergency procedures or licensed medical treatment.
Acupressure should not be used:
As the only treatment for illness; if you are sick, see a doctor
If you have a heart condition
Just before or within 20 minutes after heavy exercise, a large meal, or bathing
If the point in question is under a mole, wart, varicose vein, abrasion, bruise, cut, or any other break in the skin
If you are pregnant, especially if more than 3 months
